Sharing Behaviour

Available on our Pro Plan
When you share information across users, you are enabling teams to manage their Entities and collaborate among themselves.

Here you’ll find the expected behaviour of the Entities upon sharing them.

Widget - when a Widget is shared, it is possible to:

  • add it to existing or new Dashboards;
  • duplicate it.

Dashboard - when a Dashboard is shared:

  • any parent Dashboard Group and its Widgets are also shared;
  • it becomes, by default, available in the Shared Dashboards‘ tab.

Dashboard Group - when a Dashboard Group is shared:

  • all of its Dashboards and respectful Widgets are also shared;
  • it becomes, by default, available in the Shared Dashboards‘ tab.

Note: Through the use of visual icons, it is possible to distinguish owned Entities in the Shared Dashboards tab from the shared Dashboards or Widgets in the Yours Dashboards tab (differentiating read and write Permissions).

Ground Rules

Whenever a share action triggers indirect sharing - i.e., sharing another Entity to support the sharing of the current one (e.g. sharing a Dashboard triggers Share Widget) - if previous privileges on the indirectly shared object exist, these won’t be overridden.

When a sharing action triggers the indirect sharing of an entity, then:

  • if the User is the Owner of that Entity, he can decide what Permissions are given.
  • if the User isn’t the Owner, that Entity is shared with read-only Permissions.

Unsharing an Entity with another User will directly impact their Dashboard disposition, where they will lose access to that Entity (i.e., unsharing a Widget will remove it from any Dashboard it used to belong).
